Maldives: Pasmal, mon amie

Indian Ocean honeymoon: 16 days in paradise, 2009-2010

Maldives, a huge chain of 1,200 islands, is the island country with the lowest highest point in the world. With the highest point at about 2 meters, global warming is a near future threat to its existence. We jumped at the opportunity to see these pristine islands before the seas wash them away...

Namaste!

We stayed at 2 resorts, the first called Sheraton Full-moon resort near the capital Male. After 8 days, we took a scenic sea plane southwest to a smaller, secluded island called Vilu Reef, where we had our very own water bungalow. That was fantastic.

Frolicking by the Sheraton pool...

The scuba diving off of the Sheraton was fantastic. A stunning coral shelf with tons of wildlife at 10-20 meters down....

That's a moray eel

My opinion of the stock market over the past decade...

Strolling around the Sheraton resort..

We took a day trip to the capital island Male. This is the largest mosque. Maldives is predominantly a moslem country. No drinking allowed in the capital!

A view to a kill from our sea plane en route to Vilu Reef...

At the Vilu Reef pool, we practiced water yoga. You can try this at home...

This is the view from our water bungalow at Vilu Reef. We loved the "front and back yards", which is basically the Indian Ocean.

Our kind waiter.

Let's refresh!

Meggu chan is swinging on a neigboring island...

Sunset and dinner time at Vilu Reef....I actually did some marathon training on this boardwalk in between all the relaxing...

Water bungalow scenary

This must be just like living in paradise....

....and I don't wanna go home...
